In this project you will use Adobe Illustrator to trace and redraw your animal using the Pen Tool. You will work with layers, opacity, and vector shapes to create a clean, detailed drawing. When finished, you will sign your work and export it as a PDF to submit on Canvas.
Grading Rubric
2pts Document Setup - Work is submitted as a .pdf and square.
6pts Drawing - Animal is recognizable and drawn with clean Pen Tool paths and detail.
2pts Name & Year - Student name / signature and current year are written in a corner of the artwork.

Open the desktop software Adobe illustrator.
Create a new document.
Use the settings shown for your document.
Set your workspace to "Essentials". This will make your tools and panels match my instruction.
*Use the "Reset Essentials" if you need to reset your workspace!
This program DOES NOT save automatically. Save OFTEN! We will save to the cloud for this assignment.
Find a good picture of your animal and screenshot it. Make sure the pose (body posture and facial features) are what you want.
Paste the image in and while it is still selected change the opacity to 30%.
Click on the empty space as shown to LOCK the layer.
Create a new layer we will draw on.
See the instructions on how to pan and zoom.
Select the pen tool from the tool bar and set the fill=none, stroke=black, strokeWidth=3pt
Draw your animal and add lots of detail!
Use the direct selection tool to move parts of lines.
If your screen is ever greyed out and you can't get out of it.... use the back button. You are inside of a "group" of objects.
When you are finished hide the reference image from the layers panel by 'poking the eye'.
Use the pencil tool to write your name and the year in a corner of your work.
We will export our work in order to submit it to canvas.
Exporting = Save a final copy (can not be edited)
Saving = Save a working file that can be edited
Make sure you save as a .pdf
Submit your work to canvas!
